DDGV Training Program is strategic from the beginning. We build horses right the first time! We never underestimate the importance of a solid foundation. After weaning, babies enter a gentle, in-hand training program that begins with establishing trust, respect, and basic behavioral expectations. These youngsters are introduced to basic ground trail obstacles, giant jolly balls, and a myriad of desensitizing tools and games to build courage and trust. Weanlings have mastered grooming time as well, as they confidently stand for bathing, clipping, and farrier work.
Yearlings and two-year-olds begin a basic fitness program and more advanced training regimen. This includes precision in-hand training and more challenging trail obstacles. We work hard, but we play hard, too. We want a well-trained horse, but we want a happy horse as well. At DDGV, training the mind of the horse is just as important as training the body.
Our three-year-olds then progress to under saddle work, horse shows, and extreme trail competitions. Since our foundation training is so thorough, the transition to riding is smooth and seamless. By then, DDGV horses have quite the vocabulary and are very confident, willing partners that continue to enjoy learning new skills as they mature and develop into a stunningly beautiful, athletic Diamond D Gypsy Vanner.
